"Origins of Seeing" marks the emergence of VICTO’s painterly voice — a series where realism flirts with abstraction, and emotional perception outweighs literal representation. These early works are intimate studies in observation: of animals, landscapes, and fleeting moments of solitude. Painted between 2020 and 2022, they reveal a raw vulnerability in VICTO’s practice, where classical oil technique is filtered through a deeply personal lens.
Each canvas captures more than a subject — it captures a state of mind. Lush florals verge on dreamlike dissolution; a resting deer seems suspended in time and memory; figures dissolve into gesture against wind-swept cliffs. These paintings are not about the visible world, but about how the world is felt when our defenses are down and wonder returns.
The brushwork remains visceral and intuitive. Layered textures, bold palette contrasts, and unfinished edges invite the viewer into the process of becoming — a space where emotion precedes form, and silence speaks. This series laid the groundwork for VICTO’s future language of playful minimalism and conceptual figuration. In these works, we witness the artist not only painting, but discovering how to see.
These works were created in a time of deep personal transition — in the early experience of motherhood, during periods of constant travel, and in the search for a true artistic self. The most profound influence came from time spent in the United Kingdom, especially in Scotland and the Outer Hebrides, where the artist lived in complete solitude for two months. Surrounded only by raw nature — wind, sheep, horses, and sky — VICTO painted with a new kind of clarity and emotional openness that shaped the soul of this series.
